Bay murder accused await bail outcome

Meter taxi murder accused in dock

FOUR suspects charged with hijacking, robbery, kidnapping and the murder of Richards Bay meter taxi owner Sobongiseni Mbonwa, will today (Monday) know the outcome of their bail application.

The accused, aged between 25 and 30 years, have appeared in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court over the past two weeks with their bail application, which Richards Bay SAPS Investigating Officer S Shoba has strongly opposed.

The 39-year-old deceased was reported missing after he left home on 16 July in his silver grey Polo and never returned.

His decomposed body was discovered in Hluhluwe two weeks after his disappearance.

The vehicle was found abandoned in Meerensee and recovered by police.

For the duration of the bail application, more than 40 meter taxi operators showed solidarity and were present at the court proceedings.
