A holistic approach to guiding future leaders
'We are passionate about making a difference in each student’s life'

There is no such thing as a misfit at Tutor Africa. It is rather a place for every student who does not fit in well at a conventional school.
Located in Meerensee at the Methodist Church, Tutor Africa opens its doors to high school students following the IEB, CAPS and American Equivalent (GED) of Grade 12 programmes.
Student focused
As part of the registration process, students go through an analysis where the most suitable programme is then chosen for each student.
We recently chatted to Principal Meryll Brownlee, who has more than 25 years experience in home schooling.
‘We are passionate about making a difference in each student’s life, and never give up on a student as each child is different.’
Tutor Africa takes a holistic approach to teaching, offering students more than just an 8 to 2pm curriculum.
The school has a homework club, which is a programme dedicated to assisting students with homework supervision. They also provide extra lessons if needed.
‘We’re still in our early phases and with Tutor Africa being a Non-Profit Organisation, we are currently looking for sponsors – be it the sponsoring of a child’s school fees or assisting with the facilities,’ explains Meryll.
Happy Little Stars
In addition to the high school, they also have a nursery school – Happy Little Stars.
Based in Birdswood, Richards Bay, the nursery school focuses on ‘special needs’ children.
Going forward in 2017 they plan on opening a primary school.
‘We look forward to developing our schools with state-of-the-art facilities to meet the needs of children who feel like they simply do not belong in conventional schools,’ says Meryll.
