Thousands of litres flow down the drain

Six-and-a-half hours later the cavalry arrived and set about digging up the leaking pipe with a backhoe

IT took no fewer than 12 phone calls from Empangeni businessman Johan Irmscher to get the City of uMhlathuze plumbers out to a water leak in Platina Drive.

Irmscher told Bay Watch he had first called the municipality at 7.45am after arriving at work to find thousands of litres flowing down the driveway of his business.

Six-and-a-half hours later the cavalry arrived and set about digging up the leaking pipe with a backhoe – but not before a massive amount of water had flowed down the driveway and into a drain at the back of the property, forming a large ‘lake’ as the water backed up.
