Beauty with a purpose

The intention is to support needy school girls with washable sanitary pads as part of her community programme.

MRS Africa 2016 finalist Ntombifuthi Gumede (34) wants to empower young girls in Zululand.

The beauty queen from Durban made a stop in Zululand on Thursday morning in search of a school with disadvantaged young girls.

The intention is to support needy school girls with washable sanitary pads as part of her community programme.

Through this project, Ntombifuthi also focuses on education, and offers girls beauty tips.

‘I might be from Durban, but my husband is from eShowe, hence I wanted to support a school in this area. Working together with Dignity Dreams we want to empower young women in rural areas,’ she said.

‘This is not about beauty, but about making sure all women are empowered and motivated.’

Ntombifuthi is one of the few finalists to representing South Africa at the pageant to be held in Johannesburg in November.

She is the only finalist from KZN and hopse to bring the tittle home.

She has represented the region and KZN in various events, including Miss Tourism, where she scooped the first princess title.

Ntombifuthi also pocketed the Mrs KZN first princess crown earlier this year, and outshone thousands of hopefuls.

Now this beauty need your support to bring the crown home.

‘KZN and Zululand are my home and I plead for their support in terms of votes.. I can’t do this alone, but need everyone behind me,’ she said.
