What a mess – on our Blue Flag Beach

LETTER OF THE WEEK

THIS was Alkantstrand at 8am on Sunday morning, 13 October. Our so called Blue Flag Beach! What a shameful sight.

1. Where is the municipality in all of this?

2. What happened to the ‘No Alcohol’ policy for the beachfront?

3. Why does the municipality not consistently enforce their own bylaws and regulations or is it a too sensitive political issue just before 2014 elections.

4. Is this why we pay our taxes? In order to clean up the rubbish left by a bunch of hooligans, who clearly have no respect and no consideration for the rest of us and who are probably not making any contributions to the upkeep of these facilities.

It is time for action.

The municipality needs to get its act together and sort this problem out at the beaches and at Naval Island once and for all.

Close these facilities off and issue permits to all tax paying citizens with a fixed address in the area governed by the uMhlathuze Municipality.

The rest must pay an entrance fee and enforce proper access control.

The devastation of our facilities cannot continue like this.
