Mutlow wins ‘Battle of the sexes’
The ladies provided stiff competition, which resulted in a high standard of bowls being played by all.

RICHARDS Bay bowler Barry Mutlow scored one for the men over the weekend, when winning the Richards Bay Bowls Club Mixed Singles Championships played on wet greens.
The annual tournament that has been dubbed ‘The battle of the sexes’, saw eighteen bowlers competing for the bragging rights.
The ladies provided stiff competition, which resulted in a high standard of bowls being played by all.
Marelise Theunissen was the only lady left in the competition after the round robin stages played on Saturday.
Sunday’s action rolled off with two men quarter-final games, that saw Hercules van Niekerk and Brian Scott booking their spot in the semi-finals.
But Van Niekerk went down to 21-18 to Theunissen, something that he will never live down.
Mutlow claimed a 21-11 win over Scott in the second semi-final, to set up a repeat of last years final.
The final started off slowly, with the scoreboard reading 7-6 after six ends.
But as the game progressed, the experience of Mutlow showed and he finally won 21-9.
This is the second year in a row that the men have managed to come out on top.
