Horn is ready to rumble

Jakobus follows a simple motto: 'Challenge accepted'.

EMPANGENI rugby export Jakobus Horn (23) played a major role in the success of the Boland Kavaliers team that qualified for the Currie Cup competition which is played at the conclusion of the Super Rugby season.

The lock forward is an agile ball carrier and line-out specialist who started playing rugby in Grade 1 at Heuwelland Primary School.

Like the majority of young boys, the rugby bug bit hard and he has never looked back.

He currently lives in Riebeeck Kasteel (Western Cape) and trains three times a day, focusing on gym work, skills and fitness.

When not busy tormenting opponents on the rugby field, Jakobus can be found fishing, playing a round of golf, hanging out with friends at the beach or spending quality time with family.

‘My goal for this season was to make the play-offs in the Premier Division Currie Cup and then go on to sign for a Super Rugby franchise.’

‘I have always had good coaches growing up, which has helped me to achieve everything that I have in my career.

‘I have had the privilege of working under top class coaches such as Sean Erasmus (SA School’s coach), Paul Anthony (Bulls U19), former Springbok lock Albert van der Berg and now Brent Jansen van Rensburg (former EP Kings coach).’

‘The highlight of this year for me was when we beat the Blue Bulls at Loftus Versveld.’

Jakobus follows a simple motto: ‘Challenge accepted’.

The Currie Cup season kicks off on Friday, with Boland taking on the Toyota Free State Cheetahs XV.
