HEALTHY living was the theme at the annual Eco-Schools workshop hosted by Richards Bay Minerals (RBM), WESSA and Ensight Energy Solutions at Grantleigh School.
The workshop is aimed at creating awareness and action around environmental sustainability in schools.
Pupils from various schools within RBM’s four host communities (Sokhulu, Mbonambi, Dube and Mkhwanazi) participated in the fun game session ‘amazing race’, whereby teamwork and problem solving abilities were tested.
The pupils were also invited to do presentations on their view and suggestions for healthy living.
‘Planting the seeds of conservation in young minds ensures a sustainable future for all people, animals and plants,’ said RBM‘s Ecology and Rehabilitation Superintendent, Nelisa Dladla.
‘It is important that industries such as RBM work hand in hand with conservation and energy efficiency stewards such as WESSA and Ensight to improve collaboration on environmental education, conservation and sustainability in RBM’s surrounding communities.
‘In addition, all parties have a shared commitment of enabling highly effective and well supported environmental education and conservation projects such as the Eco-schools programme.’
The Department of Education was among those thanked for their support of environmental learning through participation in the interactive workshop.
The programme is active in 58 countries around the world and was implemented in South Africa in 2003 by WESSA.
