Man found in possession of murder weapon

The deceased was shot six times while repairing a broken fridge in Khula Village.

THE uMkhanyakude Tactical Response Team stationed at KwaMsane arrested Mthokozisi Victor Mtshali (24) for the possession of an unlicensed firearm at a KwaMashu hostel on 24 July.

This followed information received from an awaiting trial murder suspect about a gun used in a homicide.

The police detained the murder accused in Pinetown and during cross-examination he told them the firearm was kept at his home in KwaMtholo Reserve, KwaMsane.

The police then went to the said homestead and recovered a .38 special revolver.

According to ballistic reports, the recovered revolver was used in a murder case committed on 13 May at about 1:30pm in which Andrias Gawel (62) was gunned down by two unknown suspects.

The deceased was shot six times while repairing a broken fridge in Khula Village.

Nkosinomusa Manqele (27) and Khumbulani Putuza Manqele (25) were arrested for the murder.

Mtshali appeared in the KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court, charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm.
