Mrs Zululand finalist cooks up a storm

Mrs Zululand finalist Angelique du Preez puts her cooking skills to the test in St Lucia.

MRS Zululand finalist Angelique du Preez of Riverview Village says cooking with her husband is a daily activity – and their way of bonding.

Last Wednesday Du Preez had a once in a lifetime opportunity to showcase her cooking skills on the Dumi’s Siyapheka show on 1KZN TV.

The cookery show took place at the Cheese Farm Lodge between Mtubatuba and St Lucia.

‘Dumi asked me to cook with her on her show, because I recently qualified as a Mrs Zululand 2016 finalist.

She was over the moon for the opportunity since cooking is one of her big loves
Du Preez used two types of cheese from the farm – roqueforti and charbrie, a chilli flavoured white cheese.

For the starter, she prepared puff pastry and goat’s cream cheese with red grapes reduction, garnished with figs. She also used thyme.

For the main course, she prepared sticky peri-peri chicken wings with bacon and cheese, served with potato wedges. She also prepared rosemary gem squash with blue cheese.

For dessert she prepared homemade malva pudding, served with whipped cream and mint.

All the ingredients used during her cooking are homegrown.
