Putting pedal to the metal
The North Coast Region caravan club claimed fourth and tenth place respectively in the main endurance pedal car race

THE North Coast Region pedalled their way into fourth and tenth place respectively in the main endurance race at the annual Pedal Car Derby Rally held at the Protea Hotel’s Karridene Caravan Park.
Sixteen families of the North Coast Region Caravan Club attended the recent event on the South Coast. A total of 122 caravans turned up for the fun-filled weekend.
Saturday marked the ‘big day’ of the races, which saw toddlers on scooters, speedsters on pedal cars and veteran snails ‘tearing up’ the track while parents and supporters cheered them on.
The main endurance race challenged cyclists to one hour of serious road racing, which was competed in relay teams of six cyclists (four male and two female).
The 500m track provides steep inclines, declines and sharp turns which separates the ‘men from the ladies’.
The rules of the race states that if a car has any sort of trouble on the track, the driver must get out and push the car all the way to complete the lap.
The North Coast Region experienced trouble with car number 10’s chain that kept coming off, while car No 8 had a flat tyre.
