Road revamp for Madlazini

The 12-month contract to upgrade the agri-village's 3.6km bus route to an asphalt surfaced road will commence on Tuesday.

AFTER years of outcries and protests by the Madlazini community to have their gravel roads tarred, the uMhlathuze Municipality has finally allocated funds for the project.

Scribante Construction will on Tuesday commence with the 12-month contract to upgrade the agri-village’s 3.6km bus route to an asphalt surfaced road with piped storm water systems and 1.2-metre wide concrete sidewalks.

The R30-million project will also include provision for future street lighting, six bus bays and shelters.

Around 40 jobs are estimated to be created for local labour, largely employed by means of local sub-contractors for tasks such as storm water pipe laying.

It is envisaged that a minimum of three local sub-contractors will be employed.
