I WRITE in support of the letter by ‘Tired of Waiting’ referring to the queuing chaos at the licensing department, and I wholeheartedly agree with his viewpoint.
Vote for those who will serve the people, not those who wish to rest in their office chairs.
I have been a resident of Richards Bay for longer than 30 years and never had to queue to pay when the old system was in place, when a ‘Notice to renew’ was send out to residents.
All I did was to attach the amount in the form of a cheque to the notice and returned by post, and two weeks later I received my licence disk in the mail – simple, and efficient!
What happened to that process? Why do we not get those notices anymore?
Just look at how many people now also have to pay fines because they did not receive the reminders we all relied upon, and we are now also paying an ‘ADMIN’ or ‘System fee’ for the privilege of paying for a vehicle licence.
One can only guess the new method is generating more funds through fines for the ruling party?
I was told that owing to a dispute with the Post Office, whose account was not paid, renewal notices no longer get sent out.
In other words, there is a process that can help elevate the problem, we just need someone to get off their chair and sort out the mess, but my guess is that they are more concerned about serving their political parties than serving the people who pay their salaries.
A simple change is possible, it only takes a willing person to do so, but it seems that is a trait now hard to find at the municipality.
