A GROUP of Zululand youngsters attended the Trailblazers youth camp at Midmar Dam in Howick, a KZN Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) initiative in collaboration with Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA) to nurture a spirit of social cohesion and nation building.
The 300 participants were provided with life skills and taught values to promote their development of becoming proud and patriotic leaders.
Applying the motto ‘Learn, Lead and Serve’ asttendees were divided into teams each carrying the name of a wildlife animal on a coat of arms, and led by youth leaders and mentors who ensured discipline and order.
A day was set aside for community service, visiting impoverished communities and helping with the painting and cleaning of three schools.
The DSR was responsible for providing logistical support, recruiting and organising the participants, while the SRSA and its partners – the National Youth Development Agency and LoveLife – provided financial training and content support for the camp.
