‘Without prejudice the department would like to extend its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
‘Regarding the management of the patient while in the care of our health facility, the department is not at liberty to discuss the details with a third party, including the media, because of the patient information confidentially prescripts.’
Meanwhile, explaining its stance on the matter, the LUWM Hospital promised to call and arrange a meeting with the deceased’s relatives to address the issue.
‘The hospital has a functional and effective complaints management procedure and we urge our health users to utilise it as soon as they feel their rights have been violated, to address any dissatisfaction,’ LUWM Hospital spokesperson Khethiwe Dlamini said.
