POLICE have yet to discover the motive behind the brutal killing of a 54-year-old man in a Mtubatuba shop on Thursday afternoon.
Andreas Gawel was conducting inspections on branded products at a tuck shop in Khula Village at around 2pm when he was accosted by two unknown men.
Gawel was shot at least five times in the chest in this the latest in a spree of armed robberies in the Khula Village and Mtubatuba area.
‘We are still trying to confirm the motive behind the killing,’ said Mtuba SAPS spokesperson, Captain Justice Hlabisa.
‘The suspects fled with nothing more than a cell phone, which is strange.’
With the investigation at a sensitive stage, police would not confirm any further details.
‘Residents are urged to take notice of strange individuals hanging around their areas,’ he said.
‘If they notice someone who is unknown to them, especially in the more remote places, they must contact the nearest police station immediately, who will dispatch officers to investigate.’
