
A KWANGWANASE man was dealt a hefty fine coupled with a prison sentence on 25 April after being found in possession of R14 000 worth of counterfeit cigarettes.
Dumisani Mthethwa was stopped on 23 April while travelling on the N2 near Kwambonani and arrested when the illegal goods were discovered in his vehicle.
The 23-year-old submitted to court that he was unemployed and did odd jobs to support his two children.
He also did not possess a valid driver’s licence, for which he faces a second charge.
The Kwambonambi Magistrates Court meted out a R10 000 fine or a two-year prison sentence, half of which was suspended for a period of three years.
