UPDATE: Estate agent attacker found guilty

The accused Robert Kabelo Maphutane (25) was found guilty in the eShowe Regional Court by Magistrate Morné Swanepoel.

THE man who attacked a 72-year-old estate agent in eShowe was found guilty last week.

The accused Robert Kabelo Maphutane (25) was found guilty in the eShowe Regional Court by Magistrate Morné Swanepoel.

Maphutane faced a charge of attempted murder after attacking Jean Myburgh.

She survived the traumatic experience on 11 June last year when she was attacked and strangled by Maphutane.

She was showing him a house which he said he was interested in buying. After the attack, Maphutane locked Myburgh inside the house and fled with the keys of the house as well as her motor vehicle, handbag and cellphone.

Myburgh had lost consciousness during the attack and woke up lying on the bathroom floor the next day.

She managed to attract the attention of a passer-by who alerted a security company and the police.

Myburgh sustained severe injuries to her neck and was very traumatized.

Maphutane was arrested by eShowe Detectives on 16 July.

He will be sentenced in the eShowe Regional Court on 17 May.
