MEMBERS of the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra are making their way to the heart of Zululand this week as they take part in the annual Rural Residency Programme for 2016.
Presenting a number of glorious, eclectic concerts of orchestral favourites, the educational repertoire covers music from familiar themes such as James Bond, Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter, to our the National Anthem, a range of recognisable motifs from the orchestra’s classical collection, to Pharrell William’s clap-along ditty, Happy.
The orchestra consists of 70 full-time musicians who enjoy a reputation for innovative excellence among South African orchestras and has proved to be a formidable resource countrywide.
It is dedicated to delivering the importance of music in SA through its Education and Development Programmes. Every year they perform to 80 plus schools throughout the province – performing in the cities, the suburbs, the rural communities and the townships, touching the lives of more than 30 000 pupils.
