Get them a new toy or some tasty treats, take them for a long walk in the park and spent extra quality time with them.
Think outside the box and come up with some ideas to celebrate your relationship with your pet.
National Pet Day was founded in 2006 by pet and family expert Colleen Paige to celebrate the joy pets bring into our lives, and to create public awareness about the plight of many animals waiting to be rescued around the globe.
Once you have indulged your own animals with their favourite treats, why not consider donating to a shelter or other animal welfare organization, like your local SPCA.
There are so many neglected and unwanted animals waiting for some love and attention out there.
You can donate your time, food or other supplies – every little bit helps.
If you don’t already own a pet, what better time to adopt one.
If you’re not ready for a pet of your own, but you’d still like to spend time with animals, you can still volunteer your time at a local welfare centre.
