Last chance to register to vote!
This Saturday and Sunday is the final registration weekend

THOSE who have not yet registered to vote in this year’s Municipal Election are getting one last chance to do so.
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will accept final registrations this Saturday and Sunday.
‘All 4795 voting stations throughout the province will be opened on both days to assist potential voters to register, re-register or update their registration details,’ said the IEC.
‘About 14385 staff have been recruited and trained to administer registration of voters.’
The Department of Home Affairs will also open its offices between 8am and 5pm over the weekend to allow citizens to collect their IDs or to obtain temporary ID certificates in order to register.
Speedy process
To speed up the registration process, the Commission has made an electronic PDF version of the Voter Registration application form available on the IEC website.
Posters explaining how to complete the registration form will be posted outside each voting station and clipboards will be provided to enable voters to complete the forms whilst in the queues before even entering their station.
To register you must be a South African Citizen who is 16 years or older and must bring a valid, green bar coded South African ID Document, a smart ID card or a valid temporary ID certificate.
Voting stations will be opened from 8am until 5pm.
New voters
During the First Registration Weekend held on 5 and 6 March 2016, almost one million voters visited the stations throughout the province and of these, 166 112 were voters that registered for the first time.
The highest number of first time registrations came from youth between the ages of 18 and 29 which recorded 77 388 first time voter registrations.
