I REFER to the article in the Zululand Observer about Vinyl Entertainment and the fact that bylaws are not enforced in this town.

In the Arboretum extension area there is a public park located between the complexes.

This was meant to be a playground for children, but has turned into a party hub and a den for drug dealers.

The entrance to the park used to be blocked off with cement sleepers.

These have been moved and people stop in the middle of the park, play music, drink alcohol and party into the early hours of the morning.

It used to happen once or twice a week, but is now a regular occurrence.

The following morning you will find empty beer bottles, cans, wine boxes, broken glass and used condoms.

Not so long ago, we heard from a managing agent in one of the complexes that a child was raped in the park.

The past weekend a tent was erected bearing political flags and during the December holiday a concert was held there.

I find it hard to believe that this is legal and allowed in a residential area.

Should they not use the uMhlathuze Regional Sports Complex in Veldenvlei for this?

I have contacted the nuisance officer, the police, the flying squad, the traffic department and the ward councillor, all to no avail.

As far as I know, drinking in public, public indecency and dealing in drugs are illegal.
