ON Thursday I woke up to find water streaming across the road from where I live.
I contacted the relevant department at the uMhlathuze Municipality offices and all the necessary details were taken down.
It was also not long before I received a text message on my phone, confirming that ‘the water related incident’ was now with the maintenance department. I was also given a reference number.
By Thursday afternoon the situation was unchanged and on making enquiries, I was advised that it is being attended to.
By Friday morning, now 24 hours later, the water was still streaming across the road.
I contacted the municipality again, only to be told that they are busy with the job.
I was able to tell them that there is no one at the site where the problem is, as I can see it from my house.
I was told that by saying ‘they are busy with the job’ does not necessarily mean that the maintenance team is on site, it may also mean that they could possibly be at the municipal stores collecting whatever they may need to do the repair.
Four or five hours have now elapsed. It is now 1pm, and nobody has arrived yet to do the job.
This just leaves me speechless when I think how dire the water situation is here and in many parts of our country.
May I add, that this is now also the third time in a period of approximately four weeks, that the maintenance team is being called to the same problem spot.
HELPLESS & FRUSTRATED
