LAST week, Eyethu Baywatch reported on the arrest of a Nigerian drug kingpin, who had allegedly sold drugs to youth and was found in possession of banned substances to the street value of R200 000.
It is really commendable that the SAP has been able to execute several drug arrests in the past few months in Empangeni.
The drug problem among youth is escalating and the only way to stop this scourge is to apprehend the drug lords, who are recruiting peddlers daily.
So many parents are losing teenagers to this vicious cycle and sadly in many instances, the end result is a premature death.
We cannot have authorities colluding with drug kingpins. The only way the public can build their confidence and trust in the police again is by seeing more arrests of this nature taking place.
So, well done to the authorities involved in executing the past few arrests. It is a start in this battle against drugs but every perpetrator caught saves another youngster. The longer they stay in prison, the safer our communities.
