THE Proteas World Cup T20 squad will head to India with the desire of lifting the T20 World Cup burning in their bellies.
One could see this passion and Protea fire in the two T20 matches played against England earlier this year.
The team pulled off a blinder to win the first game on the last ball, with Morris and Abbott at the crease.
The dominant performance of Amla and De Villiers, both smashing tons in the second T20 which saw a comfortable victory for the Proteas, sparked belief within the country.
Zululander Kyle Abbott is certainly looking forward to the World Cup as his new role as opening bowler combined with a mini leadership role as a senior player.
‘It is a huge honour and an awesome feeling being part of such a talented and dynamic team heading to the World Cup. One can literally feel the passion and excitement in the locker room and on the field. I aim to contribute as much as possible to the teams performance, whilst giving my all,’ said Abbott.
‘As an established bowler at this level, I will take up a leadership role up front with the new ball, looking to not only get the team off to a great start, but to apply pressure and restrict teams to runs in the opening overs of the game. I am looking forward to my role in the team and the challenge ahead.’
The squad is as follows: Faf du Plessis (Titans, captain), Kyle Abbott (Dolphins), Hashim Amla (Cape Cobras), Farhaan Behardien (Titans), Quinton de Kock (Titans), AB de Villiers (Titans), JP Duminy (Cape Cobras), Imran Tahir (Dolphins), David Miller (Dolphins), Chris Morris (Titans), Aaron Phangiso (Highveld Lions), Kagiso Rabada (Highveld Lions), Rilee Rossouw (Knights), Dale Steyn (Cape Cobras) and David Wiese (Titans).
