Fire engulfs building in Mtuba CBD

A DISASTER was avoided in the Mtubatuba CBD early this morning as a fire which destroyed an internet cafe was prevented from spreading to neighbouring buildings and businesses.

Investigators are currently on scene to determine the cause of the fire which started at about 2am and was eventually extinguished by about 6am.

‘I was worried the fire would jump to other buildings so I got the fire department to spray as much water as possible on the neighbouring buildings to prevent them from burning down,’ said a resident whose shop occupies one of the neighbouring buildings.

While the official cause will only be known on completion of investigations, Mtubatuba SAPS Station Commander said it was a suspected electrical fault.
