Valence bang on target

JJ de Valence shoots his way to gold

RICHARDS Bay High School’s JJ de Valence had his scope set bang on target at the second league round of the South African National School Shooters Union (SANSSU) on Saturday at Pioneer High School in Vryheid, when he claimed gold in the U14 Sporter Class.

De Valence earned the medal after collecting 358 points out of a possible 600.

His sister Larissa, who was the only female in the competition, finished in seventh place overall in the U16 Sporter Class with 453 points out of a possible 600.

This was a better performance from the young talented shooter, who scored 445 points in round one.

Seventy-six competitors from Pionier, Ferrum, Glenwood, Voortrekker and Richards Bay high schools competed.

‘I am very proud with the outcome of the results,’ said coach Willem de Valence. ‘JJ is only 12 years old and is already competing very well in the U14 age group. He is gaining lots of experience.’

Anyone interested in target shooting can contact Willem on 084 2708343 for more information.
