Industries join hands for water project
Richards Bay corporates plan 'Walk for Water' event

BIG business is stepping up to help answer the desperate calls for water from communities heavily affected by the drought.
Local business leaders including water utility Mhlathuze Water, South32 Hillside, the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone, Foskor and Richards Bay Coal Terminal are planning a big ‘Walk for Water’ event from the uMhlathuze Civic Centre on 19 March, not only to raise awareness of the water crisis, but also assist disadvantaged communities and rural schools with water tanks.
Five water tanks will be donated to the best water saving initiative entries and there will be various giveaways at the event to encourage more Zululanders to recycle the precious resource.
‘We are hosting this event in honour of National Water Week, but we also want this task team to take a permanent stand as the drought persists in this region and many others,’ said Mhlathuze Water Public Relations Officer Megan Govender.
‘The entry fee will be a sealed five litre bottle of water, which will be contributed towards the ‘share water’ initiative.
‘It is a wonderful way in which both industries and community members can get involved for a good cause,
‘The event will also have a lot of fun in store for friends and families, including an amusing warm-up session, stalls and children’s entertainment.’
