IT was a day of song and dance on Friday when former Umdlamfe High pupils visited their old school in eSikhaleni to motivate its pupils and donate 11 pairs of school shoes for needy boys and girls.
The old ‘boys and girls’ fondly call themselves Umdlamfe Diamonds, and have embarked on a mission to turn the school’s fortunes around.
‘After the disappointing matric results at the school for a successive number of years, we have decided to return and inspire the pupils to work hard for their future,’ said
Chairperson of the Umdlamfe Diamonds, Themba ‘Kancho’ Mabaso.
‘We are going to ‘adopt’ the school and support struggling pupils in many ways, including financial backing of pupils who pass matric with flying colours this year.’
During the festivities, Ukhozi FM’s S’busiso Buthelezi warned the pupils against the dangers of using drugs.
City of uMhlathuze Deputy Mayor Vera Gumbi said the municipality would enter into a partnership with the Umdlamfe Diamonds and work towards the common goal of improving the education of black children.
School Principal S’bonelo Mkhize promised a 100% pass rate for the matric class of 2016.
