Employees splash out on water collection
South32 Hillside employees help with water need

EMPLOYEES at South32 Hillside rolled up their sleeves on Monday morning to load over 9 000 litres of water which they collected for distribution to Ntambanana residents affected by the drought.
The company launched a water share campaign to help alleviate the immediate need in this area and partnered with the Zululand Observer’s charity arm, DICE (Do I Care Enough?) to help people in the Ntambanana area with the water.
South32 employees embraced the campaign wholeheartedly by contributing truckloads of water and even challenged each other to see who will donate the most water, resulting in a whopping 1 800 five-litre bottles of water being collected.
Local businessman, Rajan Harinarain of RH Construction sponsored his truck to help collect the water from Richards Bay and transport it to Ntambanana.
South32 has challenged other corporates to join their effort and donate water.
Lulu Letlape, South32 Vice President Corporate Affairs, Africa said the company focuses on effective management of the water resources that they share with the host communities and the environment.
‘Our operations are required to assess direct, indirect and cumulative impacts and risks to water resources by understanding the social, cultural, ecological and economic values of these resources within their area of influence.
‘Where water is identified as a material risk, our operations are required to implement controls to mitigate the risk and improve the management of water resources,’ said Letlape.
DICE representative, Linda Zeelie thanked South32 Hillside for their generous contribution and said the water will go a long way in helping residents in the Ntambanana area who have been severely impacted by the drought.
