I FIND it disturbing that the police only last week released the information that a serial killer is on the loose in the eSikhaleni area (Thursday’s ZO -‘Huge police hunt for serial rapist’).
According to your report the perpetrator has so far claimed no fewer than 10 victims since February last year!
Surely it is in the public interest to know if a serial rapist is on the prowl so that women especially can be on the alert.
I simply don’t understand the reasoning for keeping this under wraps.
The police continually request the community to assist them with information and perhaps the rapist would already have been caught had the wider community networks known about the situation and kept an eye out.
A serial rapist causing havoc in our major cities or elsewhere in the world would have resulted in frenetic media attention, yet here in Zululand citizens go about their business totally ignorant of a madman on the loose.
I would like to hear a senior police spokesperson explaining the motivation for keeping this secret.
