Water relief gains momentum
ZO's D.I.C.E. teams up with Bayete Foundation as collection point

THE Zululand Observer and their charity arm DICE (Do I Care Enough?) is assisting King Goodwill Zwelethini’s Bayede Foundation by acting as a local drop off and collection point for donations of water.
The precious bottles (which should be sealed) will be distributed by project partners the Shoprite Group, East Coast Radio and Gift of the Givers to areas of Northern KZN that a most affected by the drought.
‘To date around 1 million litres of fresh drinking water has been delivered to communities affected by the crippling water crisis,’ said CEO of the Bayede Foundation, Rhana Naicker.
‘Our intervention is a drop in the ocean compared to the much greater need, but every drop makes a significant difference to the affected communities,’ she said.
Water will be collected daily from various points including the Zululand Observer offices in Empangeni’s Baines Street by the Gift of the Givers volunteers, who will then distribute it to areas identified as most in need by the Bayede Foundation.
Empangeni’s Shoprite stores are assisting the water drive by offering bottled water at cost price, and also displaying collection bins in their stores.
Water can be delivered to the Empangeni offices of the Zululand Observer between 8am and 4pm.
