Twenty residents arrested for kidnapping and assault

Angry residents demanded arrested community members to be released from the holding cells yesterday (Wednesday)

TWENTY residents from Port Durnford were arrested for kidnapping and assault on Tuesday night.

According to the police, the group kidnapped and assaulted four suspected criminals.

They apparently went house to house with the suspects, collecting ‘stolen goods’ in what is believed to have been an attempt to curb the crime affecting the community.

After their arrest, other furious residents marched to eSikhawini Police Station and Magistrate’s Court in eSikhaleni yesterday (Wednesday) morning and demanded their release.

All twenty will appear at eSikhawini Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday) for bail applications.
