THE KwaZulu-Natal Liquor Authority (KZNLA) says it wishes to clarify the liquor licence renewal process following an incorrect police notice received by the Zululand Observer.
‘We have been flooded by requests for clarity on this matter, and would like to educate the public on the correct processes to follow with regards to applying for or renewing a liquor licence,’ said KZN Liquor Authority communications official, Sira Naidoo.
Important points for those applying for the licences should be noted as follows:
An application for the renewal of a liquor licence must be lodged at any liquor authority office between Mondays ad Fridays.
An application form (Form 19), obtainable from the KZNLA head office or at all district offices, or by visiting the KZNLA website www.kznlqa.za, must be completed.
‘The application form must be accompanied by a certified copy of the current licence, a certified copy of the identity document of the licence holder, an original certified copy of a valid and active tax clearance certificate from SARS (or proof of the application at SARS for a tax clearance certificate), valid as at the date of submission of the renewal application,’ said Naidoo. ‘This also includes an original or certified copy of a police clearance certificate (or proof of the application at SAPS for a criminal record clearance certificate).
‘Payment should only be done once the Liquor Authority issues an applicant with a reference number, and licence holders are advised that the licensce will only be issued upon receipt of all required documents.’
Only cash deposits or electronic transfers will be accepted.
