AN UNUSUAL looking contender in this year’s Dakar has been forced to retire.

Owing to personal reasons, Guerlain Chicherit of the X-raid team was forced to retire the buggy CBRA.

Chicherit decided against continuing the Dakar and justified his decision with what happened on the past days.

For X-raid, the involvement of the buggy was a pure test in competition conditions.

‘We all knew, and this also applies to Guerlain, that the buggy is not yet competitive and had covered just a limited testing mileage, prior to the Dakar,’ said X-raid Team Manager Sven Quandt.

‘He was the one who gave us the ‘go’, after the final tests. Our mechanics worked hard to make the buggy ready to race. So, his decision is a major disappointment for all of us and a set back for the development of the vehicle.’
