Dover matrics score top marks

Dover Combined School in Empangeni leads the pack with top achiever receiving six distinctions

A CHANGE in attitude was the game changer that helped Dover Combined School matric pupil Mnqobi Khumalo secure six distinctions.

The 17-year-old from eSikhaleni said he has not always been a star pupil, but took a decision last year to embrace a positive attitude, change the way he tackled his schoolwork and dedicated all his free time to studying hard.

Passing with flying colours and sealing A’s in iSizulu, maths, life orientation, computer applications technology, life sciences and physical sciences, the youngster is looking forward to going to university and studying pharmacy.

Putting extra effort into his subjects, Khumalo attended extra lessons after school and over weekends at different schools.

‘I faced some challenges with transport costs to attend school and all these extra lessons, but it worked out well in the end.

‘Our teachers played a vital role in our success and one day I would like to show them my appreciation.’

Principal WS Mzobe said he was impressed with the quality of matric results and the improvement on his school’s pass rate.

‘We are grateful to all our teachers who facilitated extra lessons and to the pupils who worked hard to improve the results.’
