Grounds for complaint

Thanda stadium grass wither away before big game

JUST days away from the resumption of the 2015-2016 National First Division soccer season, Thanda Royal Zulu’s home field looks a sorry sight.

It’s obvious little or no watering of the ground has taken place over the past weeks at the centre piece of the Regional Sports Complex.

Extreme temperatures have reduced the once lush surface of the uMhlathuze Stadium to a patch of brown, withered layer of grass that might well not pass an official PSL pitch inspection.

Large areas have deteriorated to the point where the grass is dead and may well have to be replanted.

Hardly the kind of track to promote Thanda’s slick passing style of play and a far cry from the days when the Amabhubesi boasted one of the best playing surfaces in the country.

With rain predicted for the weekend, the players may well be in for a mud bath when they host Highlands Park on Sunday afternoon.
