Local skater cleans dismal park
A keen skater spent six hours cleaning the Richards Bay skate park after it was left covered in a blanket of litter following the festive weekend

BROKEN bottles, empty cans and plastic packets lined the famous Alkantstrand Beach following a festive weekend enjoyed by thousands of locals eager to welcome the New Year.
As a result, the popular skate park which is used on a daily basis by keen skateboarders was covered in a blanket of litter.
With the help of local teen Louwtjie Bates (18), the skateboarder took it upon himself to clean up and discard the litter.
After collecting a broom from the cleaning staff, who had mentioned they would assist him but never returned, Louwtjie spent six hours sweeping the park until it was spotless.
