THERE was a worrying spike in serious crime reported at eShowe SAPS over the Chirstmas period.
Most cases can be contributed to the misuse of alcohol.
On Christmas day, 25 December, 43-year-old Philmon Shamase Mkwanazi was admitted to the Catherine Booth Hospital with stab wounds to his neck, shoulder forehead and chest.
He died of his injuries.
According to witnesses, Mkwanazi was in an argument with his cousin at their homestead in the Gingindlovu area of Mananda.
Sanele Ndlovu was arrested after he was brought to the police station by his relatives, who indicated that both had been consuming to much liquor.
In a second incident on Christmas day, Simon Shabalala (44) was admitted to the eShowe District Hospital with stab wounds to his chest and back. He also passed away.
Police are investigating the matter, as it is not clear where the attack on Shabalala had occurred.
Shabalala is believed to be from Glen Hills, Stanger.
Suspects are unknown at this stage.
Motive unknown
In yet another case in the early hours of Wednesday, 27 December, Sakhile Maxwell Buthelezi (24) was shot and killed in the Nkanini area, eShowe.
The shooting occurred after an argument with Philomon Muziwempi Dumisa (68).
On further investigation, eShowe detectives found the licenced firearm Dumisa used to shoot Buthelezi, but to their surprise they also found an unlicensed firearm with the serial number scratched off.
Besides murder, Dumisa will now also face charges for the possession of an unlicensed firearm.
All the arrested persons have appeared in court and all were remanded in custody pending further investigations.
