WHEN sentencing two men, Erick Sikakhane (21) and Mkosinathi Mthethwa (18) to five years imprisonment for the rape of a mentally challenged woman, Richards Bay Regional Court Magistrate Logan Naidoo said it was sad and worrying that people cannot respect another human beings, whether drunk or not.
He was addressing the youths, who were found guilty of raping a 27 year-old last year, who has the mental capacity of a nine year-old.
Naidoo said they must understand that the offence they are found guilty of is extremely serious and perpetrates an act of gang rape.
‘These two should have been protecting her like a sister.
‘She lived in the neighbourhood and was known in the community, she was a baby in her mental state
‘You won’t even treat animals like this, one should always question, ‘Would I be happy if this was done to me or my female relatives, mother, sisters or aunts?’
‘I am shocked, I cannot believe parents rape children, people rape babies and now even those who are mentally challenged.
‘When are we going to say this is enough, even animals know better than us (humans), they will not mate with a young animal, they are better than some humans,’ he said.
