Murder suspect arrested at Empangeni shopping mall
‘Most wanted’ hides at Qalakabusha prison
POLICE pounced at an Empangeni shopping mall on Friday morning to arrest a suspect linked to a number of serious crimes, including murder.
Members of KZN North Region Crime Intelligence Task Team and Empangeni Detective Unit arrested Sibusiso Nkosikwabo Khumalo (31) after following him from Qalakabusha Correctional Centre Prison, where he had slept on Thursday.
Khumalo, a ‘most wanted’ suspect who hails from the Mtunzini Hlobane area, was being sought in connection with murder and three counts of attempted murder during an attack which took place at Mevamhlophe area outside Empangeni in August this year.
During the incident he was accompanied by other suspects who are still on the run, according to a police report.
Weapons used in the attack were high calibre firearms, including AK47 automatic assault rifles and pistols, which were identified by empty cartridges found at the crime scene.
Khumalo, who fled the area on August, is also believed to be linked to crimes in Gauteng and Free State.
Police established that while on the run between crimes he was regularly hidden by a relative at Qalakabusha.
He appeared at the Empangeni Magistrate Court on Monday.
