Stokvel murder suspects to hear their fate
Members of the stokvel fought back but the attackers opened fire, shooting one of them in the chest

TWO men who are accused of murdering Nongoma stokvel member Thoko Hlatshwayo (57) took to the stand at the Nongoma Magistrate’s Court last week but the case was subsequently remanded for next Wednesday.
Simiso Ndebele (32) and Mduduzi Luthuli (33) face charges of murder, house robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm.
Earlier this month, Hlatshwayo and other stokvel members where at eZincingweni area counting and dividing money when Ndebele and Luthuli allegedly forced open the door to rob the group.
The members of the stokvel fought back but the attackers opened fire, shooting Hlatshwayo in the chest before grabbing the money and fleeing the scene.

The group gave chase and community members assisted in apprehending Ndebele who was arrested for murder and house robbery.
Following a tip off three days later, Nongoma SAPS arrested Luthuli in KwaHolinyoka area who at the time was in possession of a 9mm pistol with its serial number filed off as well as 16 rounds of ammunition, cash and two cell phones.
He is suspected to be linked to Hlatshwayo’s murder and the firearm will be subjected to ballistic tests to ascertain if it was used in the killing.
