Empangeni supermarket robbed

The Boxer Supercity at the Empangeni Rail was held up at lunch time

ACCORDING to Empangeni SAPS spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, four suspects approached G4 security guards as they were leaving the store after collecting the morning’s takings

One of the men grabbed a box of money from the guards and ran away. Another fired a shot in the air while escaping with the remaining two gang members.

The men fled in a White GWM vehicle with a NP registration.

Police received a call from a motorist shortly after the incident, reporting a speeding vehicle being driven recklessly on the R102 towards Mtunzini.

The description of the vehicle matched the getaway car.

No security guards or customers were injured during the heist.

ARMED men robbed Boxer supermarket at the Empangeni Rail at lunch time today.

Shoppers were ushered out of the store as police swooped on the scene at about 12.30pm. The robbers managed to escape with an undisclosed amount of money.

The store was closed for trade and management were tight-lipped about the robbery.
