Man left disfigured after broken bottle attack

According to family, youngsters in the area regularly seek out the man to 'beat him up'

AN eShowe man is fighting for his life in hospital after he was brutally attacked on Sunday.

Vusimuzi Dubazane (57) was reportedly stabbed with a bottle in his face at Mbiza Number 2 Reserve by a unknown young assailant, while walking to his house.

His sister, Fikile Dubazane (42), said he was saved by a pedestrian who managed to chase away the attacker.

Bleeding profusely, the victim fled the scene to seek help but collapsed at one of the village’s homesteads.

He was found by a young boy who called an ambulance, and was rushed to eShowe Hospital.

‘We were informed later that day about the incident and we reported it to the police,’ said the tearful sister.

‘I don’t know why this attacker would hurt my brother in this manner and destroy his face.

‘When I visited him in hospital, he couldn’t speak or do anything,’ she said.

‘This is not the first time young boys have attacked him. He has become a target for hooligans in the area.

‘When they feel like beating someone up they go to my brother. Last year they dragged him on the road and severely injured his head.

‘The incident shocked our frail mother who died last year, shortly after receiving the news,’ she said.

However, according to eShowe SAPS spokesperson Captain Tienkie van Vuuren, the case has not yet been opened, but police will investigate the matter.
