Danielle is the Supersport Let’s Play star of the year
Monthly winners were rewarded for their achievements at the Supersport Let's Play year-end function.
FEBRUARY’S monthly winner Danielle van Onselen walked away with the SuperSport Let’s Play Star of the Year award at the year-end function held at Protea Hotel Empangeni yesterday afternoon.
Van Onselen managed to edge out first runner-up Hannah Bevis and second runner-up Sagel Rajakumar to claim the prestigious award.
This year’s monthly winners all achieved in various sporting codes and set a high standard for the judges, with the top three representing the KZN and SA teams for their respective sports.
‘Today’s event is all about the achievements of these fine sport stars and we join them in celebrating their success,’ said SuperSport representative Vera Ceceila Vencatasamy.
All nine monthly winners received a certificate and prizes from SuperSport, with the top three getting a certificate and sports bag filled with goodies from SuperSport sponsors.
The SuperSport Let’s Play initiative started in 2005 due to a need in rural communities.
The aim of the development programme is to introduce healthy living through sport and reduce obesity, drug, alcohol and violence amongst youth in rural communities and therefore invest in the future of the youth.
‘A study proved that children who are involved in sport are less likely to do drugs or drink alcohol,’ said Vencatasamy.
SuperSport has a number of programmes running throughout South Africa and neighbouring countries, where they provide job opportunities and educate people on environmental waste.
Protea wrestler and guest speaker Kleinjan Combrink motivated the winners on hard work and left them with this statement to ponder on – ‘Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard’.
