Richards Bay songstress jets off to Orlando

Can you help? Sponsorship needed for local singer

THE passionate Richards Bay songbird Shonté Barkhuizen (19) will be jetting off to Orlando, Florida USA to attend the Applause Rising Showcase in July next year.

Scouted by Kimberly Myers, Executive Director of the Arts International Showcase, Shonté is in need of sponsorship to secure her place as one of the lucky few who have been selected.

The former head girl of Betesda Independent School and choir head, Shonté started singing at a very young age with her father and sister.

‘Dozi’s IsiZulu songs were some of my favourite,’ she said.

The multi-lingual singer enjoys English pop and country but intends to record IsiZulu and Afrikaans songs in the future.

Setting the stage alight at the Arts and Culture Durban beach festival, Beyede support for AIDS, and opening the stage for popular Afrikaans musician Juanita du Plessis, Shonté is well on her way to stardom.

Anyone able to support this rising star may contact her on 083 2870549.
