THE uThungulu District Municipality commemorated World Aids Day with a candle-lighting ceremony on Tuesday.
The morning started with a prayer and an address by Municipal Manager Mandla Nkosi.
He then led members of the staff and management in a candle-lighting ceremony to remember those who have fallen to the Aids pandemic.
Staff members thereafter signed a commemorative banner with messages of support.
Nkosi urged staff members to talk openly about the disease and to prevent stigmatisation of those who are infected.
‘Stay faithful to one partner and lead by example in creating awareness of this disease,’ he said.
