Driver flees after crashing through restaurant window

A motorists failed to stop and drove through the window at North Coast Engen Wimpy this morning.

A MOTORIST failed to stop while entering the Engen North Coast service station (southbound) just after 4am this morning.

The car drove into the service station at high-speed, barely missing the pumps. Shortly after, it collided with one of the building’s support columns and  crashed through the wimpy window.

‘I’m relieved it didn’t crash into the pumps, if there was a fire it would have been disastrous,’said Schalk Smuts, from the North Coast Engen 1-stop Southbound.

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured in the crash. He proceeded to use the station’s restrooms before fleeing the scene. The passenger in the car was injured, and was treated by paramedics before being transported to the hospital.

No other injuries were sustained in the incident.

Empangeni SAPS attended to the scene, but no arrests have been made.
