MAHLABATHINI police investigating a burglary at a school found more than they expected when arresting a 17-year-old male in the Shayisa area outside Ulundi.
A school in the Xolo Reserve was broken into on 22 October and school property stolen.
Two males aged 18 and 26 were arrested a few days later.
The investigations continued and on Wednesday the officers went to another suspect’s homestead.
The 17-year-old was arrested and while searching the house, police found an AK-47 rifle with 21 rounds of ammunition.
They also recovered some of the stolen school property.
He has been charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm after he failed to produce a licence.
The suspect was taken to the Mahlabathini police station where he was charged and released into his parents’ custody as he is a minor.
