Police auction nets plenty

Scores bid for old police vehicles.

IN a flurry of bidding, the auction of 76 crock cop cars fetched the impressive sum of R2.6-million in just three hours at the Richards Bay Police Station on Tuesday morning.

Comprising cars, vans, bakkies and mini buses all retired from active service at the end of their useful lifespan, they were snapped up by eager buyers.

While some could be driven from the venue, others were bought for parts or for their scrap value, and a line of tow trucks waited at the gates.
